Descartes on $220 Million Buying Spree

Descartes Systems Group has spent about US$220 million on two logistics technology acquisitions in eight days, adding freight brokerage transportation management and 3PL warehouse fulfillment capabilities to its Global Logistics Network.

The company acquired California-based Extensiv for about US$120 million Sept. 1, following its US$100 million acquisition of Tai Software announced Aug. 24. The transactions are Descartes’ fifth and fourth acquisitions of 2026, respectively, and its 35th and 34th since 2017.

Tai provides an AI-enabled transportation management system for freight brokers covering truckload, less-than-truckload, drayage and cross-border operations. Its platform combines quoting, carrier sourcing, load execution, billing and customer engagement, adding carrier, transaction and shipment-execution data to Descartes’ network.

Extensiv expands the other end of the logistics technology chain. Its platform helps 3PLs manage inventory, orders, B2B and B2C fulfillment and billing across e-commerce platforms, marketplaces, sales channels and carriers.

Descartes said combining those capabilities with its existing transportation, visibility, customs compliance, trade intelligence and last-mile systems will allow logistics providers to manage more operations through a single technology provider.

Both acquisitions were funded with cash on hand.
