TIACA lobbies TSA on use of canines

[ December 1, 2016   //   ]

TIACA has submitted fresh comments to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in support of increased use of canine screenings for air cargo security.

The move comes after the TSA issued a Request for Information (RFI) from industry on potential use of third-party canines to screen air cargo.

“TIACA strongly supports expanded use of canines for screening air cargo, and believes this would be particularly useful at many US air cargo sites,” Doug Brittin, Secretary General, TIACA.

“We have been working in concert with our industry colleagues to persuade TSA to take the necessary steps to make additional canines available for air cargo screening, in particular through certification of canines trained by third parties to meet TSA standards.”

Brittin added TIACA’s efforts seemed to be yielding dividends, as at several recent events, TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger had expressed support for increased usage of canines.
