SFO’s New West Field Cargo Building Goes Solar

[ November 3, 2015   //   ]

Stion Energy Services, the project development arm of Stion, has completed the installation and commissioning of a 172 kilowatt commercial rooftop solar array at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). The solar array is expected to generate 281,128 kWh of energy annually and enable LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification for SFO’s new West Field Cargo Building.

Stion Energy Services provided a turn-key solar solution for Hensel Phelps Construction at the 78,000-square-foot West Field Cargo Building, which is the newest commercial building at SFO.

The West Field Cargo Building did not have a roof facing 180° due south, but Stion’s “Simply Better” CIGS technology generates ample electricity even when the sun’s rays do not hit the panel at an ideal perpendicular angle, which was one of the reasons Stion’s solar system solution was selected for the project. Stion also utilized a Sollega ballasted roof mount in conjunction with Advanced Energy string inverters.
