Rhenus Group Shifts Sustainability Focus

[ June 12, 2026   //   ]

Rhenus Group said its Sustainability Report 2025 marks a shift from building sustainability systems to using them to drive performance across its global logistics operations.

The company highlighted its commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), external verification of sustainability reporting and attainment of EcoVadis Platinum status as key milestones during the year. Rhenus said it has expanded its emissions database, reporting structures and sustainability dashboards to support more consistent decision-making across the organization.

“2025 marked a decisive step forward in how we manage sustainability at Rhenus,” said Joana Baetz, member of the board responsible for HR, sustainability and compliance.

Operational initiatives included deployment of the hybrid push barge Mannheim I+II on the Rhine River. Rhenus said the vessel can reduce carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 72 percent compared with conventional propulsion systems, with reductions reaching up to 90 percent when powered by HVO100 renewable fuel.

The report also cited improvements in workplace safety. Rhenus recorded zero fatalities in 2025, while its lost time injury frequency rate improved to 9.70 from 13.8 in 2024. The lost time injury severity rate improved to 18.1 from 20.1.

In waste management, the company generated 106,449 tonnes of waste, of which 98,029 tonnes were recycled and 98,237 tonnes were diverted from disposal.

Rhenus also reported progress in governance and workforce management, including updated global social policies, continued rollout of its Workday platform for social KPI tracking and enhancements to its compliance management system covering anti-corruption, antitrust and whistleblower policies.

Looking ahead, the company said its focus from 2026 onward will shift toward measuring performance through clearer key performance indicators, expanding sustainable service offerings and translating sustainability investments into business and customer value.

The family-owned logistics provider employs about 41,000 people at 1,330 locations in more than 70 countries and reported annual revenue of €8.2 billion.
