Positive trend at Ports of Bremen

[ December 2, 2021   //   ]

The positive trend for throughput at the ports of Bremen continued once again in Q3 2021. In September 2021, for instance, the ports handled almost 415,000 TEU. Total container throughput for the first nine months of this year thus amounted to 3.8 million TEU, an increase of 10.2% year-on-year.
By the end of September, total cargo throughput at the quays in Bremen and Bremerhaven came to 52 million tons, an increase of 7.5% year-on-year. This figure breaks down into 45 million tons of general cargo and 7 million tons of bulk cargo. Vehicle throughput was also up by 10.3%, with a total of 1.3 million cars transported via Bremerhaven in the first nine months of 2021.
“We welcome this continuing upward development at the ports,” said Dr Claudia Schilling, Senator for Science and Ports. “In view of the severe global problems regarding supply chains, however, this cannot be seen as a reliable trend. We have to continue our intensive efforts to improve the competitiveness of our ports.”
