Port Freeport Commission Recognizes Safety Milestones

[ August 31, 2016   //   ]

The Port Freeport Commissioners honored best safety performance at August 26’s Commissioners’ Meeting. They recognized Ports America, International Longshoremen Association Local No. 30 and Port Freeport employees for achieving a year without a lost time injury; meaning no injuries to the employees resulting in time away from their jobs.  These safety milestones are an achievement for all three organizations.

Port Commission Chairman Ravi Singhania stated “365 days without a recordable injury is a remarkable success and an indicator that the workforce understands the necessary safety practices in the workplace.  In presenting this award we wanted to ensure that the men and women at Ports America, the ILA and Port Freeport know that, we as a Commission, appreciate and value their efforts.”

“Safety does not occur by chance. It is the result of careful attention by all who are directly and indirectly involved in port related activities.  Having a culture that celebrates accountability and motivates employees at all levels is an important value for Port Freeport.” said Port CEO Phyllis Saathoff.
