1st New Semi-automatic container stacks put into service at Port of Virginia’s NIT

On October 16, the first new semi-automated container stacks at Norfolk International Terminals (NIT) were put into service.

Stacks 7, 8 and 9 are now processing container transactions for over-the-road trucks. This significant milestone inaugurates NIT’s transition to the industry-leading operating plan already in place at Virginia International Gateway (VIG). Looking ahead, the port plans to commission nine new RMG stacks at NIT by the end of calendar year 2018. By 2020, NIT will offer service via 30 RMG stacks, utilizing 60 newly-commissioned RMGs.

This is an important first step forward at NIT.
