Mintra Launches AI Training Ahead of EU AI Act
[ July 24, 2026 // Gary Burrows ]Mintra has introduced two online training courses designed to help organizations prepare for the European Union’s AI Act, which takes effect Aug. 1 and establishes a risk-based framework governing the use of artificial intelligence.
Developed with legal experts from Nordic law firm Schjødt, the courses are intended to help companies understand the legislation’s compliance requirements while promoting responsible AI adoption. One course provides a general overview of the AI Act for organizations across industries, while the second focuses on AI applications in the maritime and offshore sectors.
The maritime-specific program examines the use of AI in areas such as navigation, maintenance and operational planning, emphasizing the need for human oversight in safety-critical operations. The training addresses AI risk classifications, prohibited practices and organizational responsibilities under the new regulations, while exploring practical scenarios involving AI-enabled decision-making.
“Our collaboration on the AI Awareness course has underscored the vital importance of understanding the EU AI Act, especially within the maritime industry,” said Luca Tosoni, managing associate at Schjødt. “As AI technologies rapidly transform maritime operations, this course empowers organizations to stay ahead of regulatory requirements and innovate in a manner that is responsible and forward-thinking.”
Jessica Suessmilch, digital learning development manager at Mintra and a former seafarer, said AI can improve operational efficiency and safety but should complement, rather than replace, human judgment and experience.
