Long Beach Port Launches Green Truck Corridor
[ May 19, 2026 // Gary Burrows ]The Port of Long Beach and private-sector partners are moving forward with a zero-emissions truck corridor linking the San Pedro Bay port complex with California’s Central Valley, targeting emissions reductions along one of the nation’s busiest inland freight routes.
The memorandum of understanding, signed May 12, brings together the Port of Long Beach, The Wonderful Company and Lincoln Transportation Services to support development of a green freight corridor between Long Beach and the Wonderful Logistics Center in Shafter, California.
According to the port, more than 300,000 TEUs of imports and exports move annually between the San Pedro Bay ports complex and California’s southern Central Valley.
The initiative is intended to coordinate deployment of zero-emission trucks, charging infrastructure and inland logistics operations tied to cargo flows moving between the ports and inland distribution facilities.
Lincoln Transportation Services will serve as the corridor’s initial truck operator. The company has ordered 300 Tesla Semi electric trucks and expects the first 50 to 70 units to arrive in June. Affiliate company Voltz is also producing an additional 100 electric trucks expected to be delivered by the third quarter of 2027.
The corridor will include electric truck charging infrastructure at both ends of the route. The Port of Long Beach said it currently operates 102 charging stations, with another 92 planned later this year.
Port of Long Beach CEO Noel Hacegaba said the project is part of broader efforts to extend decarbonization initiatives beyond marine terminals and into inland freight transportation.
The Wonderful Logistics Center, a 2,000-acre logistics development in Kern County along the BNSF Railway main line, serves as an inland distribution hub for cargo moving throughout the western United States.
Other participating companies include Amazon, Target, Walmart and IKEA.
