Korean Air has signed a $333.5 million contract to mass produce reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as part of the Korean government’s plan to build up its aerial capability.

Korean Air will mass-produce the reconnaissance drones from 2016 to 2020 under a contract with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA). Detailed terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Korean Air completed the development of a UAV in 2014. The aircraft is about 4.2 meters wide and 3.4 meters long. And nearly 95% of the aircraft’s components are made by South Korean suppliers.

This is just one project of the dynamic and growing Korean Air Aerospace division which also manufactures aircraft parts for Boeing and Airbus.
