‘K’ Line Takes Delivery of Petronas LNG Carrier

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. (“K” Line) has taken delivery of the 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier Puteri Kelantan, the third in a series of new vessels for Petronas LNG Ltd.

The vessel was delivered Sept. 24 by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Ltd. in China and is owned by a joint venture led by “K” Line. Two vessels of the same type were delivered to Petronas LNG in May and June.

The 299-meter Puteri Kelantan has a beam of 46.4 meters and is powered by an X-DF dual-fuel low-speed diesel engine. Service speed is 19.5 knots.

A fourth sister vessel, Puteri Negeri Sembilan, was named alongside Puteri Kelantan Sept. 2 and is scheduled for delivery in November.

“K” Line said the vessels will expand Petronas LNG’s fleet and support LNG deliveries to its customers. The Japanese carrier has identified LNG shipping as a priority investment area and is seeking to expand its portfolio of long-term contracts.
