Fednav CEO Paul Pathy Elected BIMCO President
[ May 21, 2025 // Gary Burrows ]BIMCO, the world’s largest shipping association, elected Fednav President and CEO Paul Pathy as the organization’s 47th president at its May 14 general meeting in Copenhagen.
Pathy, also the first BIMCO president from the Americas, succeeds Nikolaus H. Schües who is finishing his two-year term and will serve two more years on the board before becoming an ex officio member.
“Our industry faces significant challenges, and I am committed to raising awareness about the invaluable contributions of the shipping industry and seafarers,” Pathy said. “We are at a critical juncture where free trade is under threat and geopolitical tensions are escalating. It is crucial that we support our industry, ensure the safety of our seafarers and facilitate a global marketplace.”
Pathy is the third generation CEO in the family business, which he joined in 2003 as vice president and general manager of Federal Marine Terminals. He became senior vice president of the business development group in 2007 and took over as sole CEO of the company in 2017.
With Pathy completing his president designate term, Ioanna Procopiou of Prominence Maritime SA, and BIMCO vice president and board member, was elected president designate at the meeting.
BIMCO, with 2,100 members from among shipowners, operators, managers, brokers and agents in 120 countries, represents 64 percent of the world’s tonnage.
