DHL Global Forwarding Adds Asia-Europe Flights
[ April 1, 2026 // Gary Burrows ]DHL Global Forwarding is expanding air freight capacity between Asia and Europe with new dedicated flights, leveraging assets from DHL Express to meet rising demand on the trade lane.
The company said it will launch weekly Boeing 777F services connecting Shanghai and Leipzig, as well as Hong Kong and Liège, with the start of the summer aviation schedule. The flights will provide controlled capacity and feed into DHL’s broader European distribution network.
“Expanding our controlled capacity on the Asia-Europe corridor reinforces our commitment to reliability, speed, and resilience for our customers,” said Henk Venema, global head of Air Freight DHL Global Forwarding.
The move reflects continued growth in Asia-Europe air cargo demand, as shippers seek faster and more predictable alternatives amid ongoing supply chain disruptions and geopolitical uncertainty.
Leipzig, a major hub for DHL Express, will serve as a central gateway for shipments from Shanghai, while the Hong Kong to Liège route will include a stop in Tel Aviv to support regional demand and maintain network continuity.
The expansion also highlights closer coordination across DHL’s business units. By integrating forwarding and express operations, the company is aiming to offer more flexible and resilient logistics solutions.
“This cross-divisional collaboration demonstrates our commitment to supporting global trade flows,” said Travis Cobb, executive vice president global operations and aviation, DHL Express.
DHL said additional network enhancements are planned, including increased trans-Pacific capacity between Southeast Asia and the United States later this year.
The investment underscores a broader industry shift toward controlled air freight capacity, as logistics providers seek greater reliability and pricing stability in volatile markets.
