DB Schenker explores new concepts of HR automation, future collaboration

[ August 7, 2019   //   ]

DB Schenker focuses on innovation and digitalization within HR in order to prepare its workforce for the future. Thomas Schulz, Chief Human Resources Office and Member of the Board of Management at DB Schenker, established the HR Strategy & Innovation function in the Silicon Valley three years ago, in order to embrace current trends and new technologies within the HR industry.

As part of ongoing activities in the area, on July 30, 2019, DB Schenker sponsored a panel discussion organized by the German American Business Association (GABA) on the future of work, entitled “How automation will enhance your company’s human capital – and enrich it!”. The conversation, hosted at the Bosch Research and Technology Center in Sunnyvale, California, explored the strong belief in future cooperation and collaboration between humans and machines.

Thomas Schulz said, “Here at DB Schenker, we believe that employees are our most valuable asset. Our goal in HR is to prepare both our employees and the company for the future. By engaging in digitalization, by embracing new technologies and by incorporating new measures – such as automation – into our strategy, we are helping to ensure future readiness.”

The panel discussion was joined by four speakers: Nan Weitzman (Global Head of Talent at HP Inc.), John Younger (CEO of StartUp HireMojo), Yvonne Keene (XaaS Business/Digital Transformation Leader at Deloitte) and Vanessa Mason (Research Director for the Future50 program at Institute for The Future). The conversation was moderated by Maaike Doyer, Future of Work Expert and Strategy Designer & CFO at Business Models Inc.

Thomas Schulz regularly meets with start-ups and thought leaders in the Bay Area, in order to exchange and collaborate on strategic topics within HR. Thomas Schulz said, “The innovative power of the Silicon Valley is transforming HR, just as it is transforming IT, mobility, transportation and media . With our HR innovation hub based here, headed by Julia Martensen, we have already delivered several projects to improve our internal processes. As always, my trip was incredibly inspiring and valuable – I am convinced that by focusing on sustainable corporate innovation, we can drive DB Schenker to success.”
