The Port of Virginia® announced that two stevedoring services at the port will consolidate their efforts in a move that will further drive efficiency and growth at the port. The consolidation of CP&O LLC and Ceres Marine Terminals, Inc. will unite the two stevedoring services under the CP&O brand.
“The combined experience of the organizations provides a greater opportunity for growth and efficiency, especially in light of the tremendous increase in demand for services to support The Port of Virginia, the nation’s most advanced port complex,” said Stephen A. Edwards, CEO and executive director of the Virginia Port Authority. “The Port of Virginia has provided best in class service in 2021 and been rewarded by our customers with 25% year over year growth. As we move into 2022, we will continue to improve, and this new venture will help us turn more ships faster and move more cargo. Our steamship line customers will be provided an excellent choice for their stevedoring services from either CP&O or Virginia International Terminals.”
Effective March 2, CP&O LLC has entered into a new 10-year stevedore license agreement with the VPA to provide container stevedoring services at Virginia International Gateway (VIG) and Norfolk International Terminals (NIT). Under this agreement, port customers will have the choice of using CP&O or Virginia International Terminals to stevedore their vessels.
The new venture is led by George Brown the current president of CP&O LLC. The new company will offer a diverse portfolio of stevedoring services, including container, break bulk, ro-ro, baggage handling, project cargo and ship provisions.
“The addition of Ceres Marine Terminals, Inc. as a member of CP&O will provide significant benefits to The Port of Virginia, including improved services and higher efficiency and improved equipment utilization to the benefit of our customers,” Brown said. “The combination of CP&O’s and Ceres’ experience and resources will further CP&O’s mission to safely and efficiently serve our customers, all while strengthening the port of Virginia’s position as one of the leading container ports in the US.”
