The Canada–Ukraine Free Trade Agreement (CUFTA) came into effect on August 1, 2017. Products originating in Ukraine for importation into Canada and products originating in Canada for importation into Ukraine now receive preferential tariff treatment on the basis of the origin declaration.

Approximately 98% of Ukrainian products and 80% of Canadian exports to Ukraine are now not be subject to duty. Some duties were eliminated immediately with others to be phased out over a three to seven year period.

To facilitate trade in the digital economy, the CUFTA chapter on electronic commerce obliges both Canada and Ukraine not to levy customs duties or other charges on digital products that transmit electronically.
