Trailer Bridge Names Caribbean Vet Gittens CEO

[ October 30, 2026   //   ]

Trailer Bridge appointed Charles Gittens chief executive officer, effective Nov. 2.

Gittens brings more than 30 years of transportation and logistics experience, including leadership roles in ocean transportation and Caribbean trade.

He most recently served as president of trade for King Ocean Services, overseeing operations involving the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos and the Eastern Caribbean. Previously, he was president and chief commercial officer of SEACOR Island Lines, where Trailer Bridge said he increased revenue 115 percent while expanding services and improving operating efficiency.

Gittens also serves on the American Caribbean Maritime Foundation’s board of directors. The organization supports maritime education and scholarship opportunities for Caribbean students.

“Charles is a valuable addition to Trailer Bridge, combining extensive industry expertise with proven commercial and operational leadership in the Caribbean trade,” said Eric Fabrikant, chairman of Trailer Bridge’s board.

The appointment comes as Jacksonville, Florida-based Trailer Bridge continues investing in its ocean operations. Recent projects include more than $9 million in improvements to its roll-on/roll-off barges, including onboard generators intended to expand refrigerated-cargo capacity. The company also has upgraded fleet-monitoring technology and entered long-term agreements supporting terminal operations and tug services.

Founded in 1991 by transportation pioneer Malcom McLean, Trailer Bridge operates roll-on/roll-off and lift-on/lift-off barge services in the Puerto Rico trade. Its cargo includes containers, vehicles, heavy equipment, oversized freight and breakbulk.
