Crowley Adds Houston-Central America Service

Crowley will launch a new weekly container service connecting Port Houston with Guatemala and Honduras beginning Sept. 10, expanding direct U.S. Gulf connections with Central America.

The Gulf-Central America Express Service will connect Houston with Santo Tomás de Castilla, Guatemala, and Puerto Cortés, Honduras, with Thursday departures from Houston.

Crowley said the service will handle dry and refrigerated containers carrying fresh produce, apparel, industrial products and consumer goods. Vessel capacity will include 40- and 45-foot dry and refrigerated containers, 53-foot dry containers and 20- and 40-foot flat racks for project cargo.

“A direct Houston connection provides a reliable, efficient logistics solution for U.S.-Central American supply chains,” said Claudia Kattan, vice president for Central America, Mexico and Panama at Crowley. “Shippers get faster transits, improved inventory planning and the flexibility to move fresh produce, consumer goods and other time-sensitive cargo without the delays of transshipments.”

The service comes amid growing Central American trade with the U.S. Exports from the region to the U.S. increased 15.7 percent year over year in early 2026, driven largely by fresh produce demand, according to the Inter-American Development Bank.

Port Houston handles approximately 75 percent of U.S. Gulf container volume, providing connections to inland markets in Texas and across the U.S.

“This new weekly call gives shippers a direct, reliable connection to Houston and two important Central American gateways,” said John Moseley, chief commercial officer for Port Houston.

Crowley has operated in Central America and the Caribbean for more than 65 years and combines its ocean services with terminals, warehousing and inland logistics operations in the region.
