[ June 19, 2026   //   ]

The Port of Long Beach handled 842,030 TEUs in May, an increase of 31.7 percent compared with the same month last year, making it the port’s third-busiest May on record.

Imports rose 40 percent to 418,851 TEUs, while exports increased 32.9 percent to 109,168 TEUs. Empty container volumes climbed 21.8 percent to 314,012 TEUs.

Despite the strong monthly performance, year-to-date cargo volumes remain essentially flat. Through the first five months of 2026, the port handled 4.05 million TEUs, up 0.2 percent from the same period in 2025.

Port officials said the results keep Long Beach on pace with last year’s record-setting cargo volumes.

The Port of Long Beach is one of the nation’s busiest container gateways, handling cargo valued at about US$300 billion annually.
