VW Tops 250,000 Vehicles Through Port Freeport
[ June 12, 2026 // Gary Burrows ]Volkswagen Group of America has surpassed 250,000 vehicles shipped through Port Freeport since establishing the Texas port as its Gulf Coast vehicle processing hub, marking a milestone in the automaker’s growing U.S. distribution network.
The milestone was reached May 28, about two years after Volkswagen began operations at the facility in early 2024. The hub serves nearly 300 Volkswagen and Audi dealerships across the U.S. and supports the import and distribution of vehicles through the Gulf Coast gateway.
Port Freeport Commission Chairman Rob Giesecke said the achievement reflects the strength of the partnership between Volkswagen and the port while supporting jobs, economic growth and supply chain efficiency.
Volkswagen selected Port Freeport as its primary Gulf Coast vehicle logistics hub in 2022. In addition to Volkswagen and Audi vehicles, the broader Volkswagen Group portfolio includes Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley brands.
Port Freeport said continued infrastructure investments and operational expansion are expected to support future growth in automotive logistics and vehicle processing activity at the port.
