BBC Bremen Christened at Port of Bremen
[ February 11, 2026 // Gary Burrows ]The BBC Bremen, the eighth vessel in BBC Chartering’s planned series of 15 LakerMax-type multipurpose ships, was christened Jan. 27 at the Port of Bremen.
Knut Voigt, head of BBC Chartering’s Bremen office, said the event highlighted the company’s long-standing ties to the city, where it was founded in 1997 and re-established operations in 2002.
The BBC Bremen was delivered in September 2025 to Briese Schiffahrt as owner and BBC Chartering as operator. Since entering service, the vessel has completed multiple voyages. After calls in Denmark and France, the ship loaded cargo in Bremen and is scheduled to call at Hamburg before sailing to Galveston and Houston.
Of the original 15-vessel LakerMax order, 11 ships have been delivered. Briese has also placed firm orders for six additional vessels, with options for six more, for delivery in 2028 and 2029.
The BBC Bremen is equipped with two 250-tonne Liebherr cranes and features a triple-deck design with 2,830 square meters of open deck space. The vessel’s fuel-efficient design reduces greenhouse gas emissions per ton of cargo by up to 30 percent.
