Trailer Bridge Inc. said Oct. 8 it has agreed to sell its logistics division – responsible for the company’s domestic brokerage and intermodal moves – to ATS Logistics Services Inc. (ATSL), effective Nov. 1.

Trailer Bridge leadership said it is “a strategic decision by to realign its focus on the company’s asset-based services within the Puerto Rican trade lane, expand its government support services, and grow its international freight forwarding business,” Jacksonville, FL-based Trailer Bridge said in a release.

ATSL, the logistics-operating arm of Anderson Trucking Service said it is targeting growth and greater value to its customers.

“By combining the strengths of both organizations, we’ll expand capacity, broaden solutions, and ensure shippers have the reliable support they need in today’s complex supply chain environment,” said Brent Anderson, president of Anderson Trucking Services, said in the release.

Mitch Luciano, CEO of Trailer Bridge, said ATS is a “trusted partner of ours for more than 30 years, and I firmly believe they are the right team.”

Trailer Bridge launched the logistics division in 2012 and “marked the beginning of our evolution into a full-service transportation provider,” Luciano said.

Team members within the Trailer Bridge logistics division will continue to serve through the transition period. As part of the agreement, ATS will assume operations of Trailer Bridge Logistics offices in Jacksonville; Raleigh, N.C.; Dallas and Kansas City, Kan. Trailer Bridge is one of three Jones Act carriers serving Puerto Rico from the Port of Jacksonville, offering weekly barge service. It also operates an NVOCC. It has long-term contracts with U.S. Transportation Command, the Defense Department and the Naval Supply Systems Command.
