Work on Atlanta’s I-85

[ April 7, 2017   //   ]

The Georgia Department of Transportation staff, contractors, and multi-agency governmental partners are working around-the-clock to remove debris, design the final engineering specs, and get construction started to restore the roadway as soon as possible. On April 4, GDOT announced that the target completion date is mid-June, approximately June 15th, per the GDOT press conference.

GDOT also reported that its advanced traffic operations is using all the modern technology available to assist in keeping traffic flowing in the Atlanta region. Using more than 1,000 cameras, 100 highway messaging signs, and state-of-the-art communications equipment, the Traffic Management Center will be consistently monitoring roadway conditions, adjusting timing on 1,500 traffic signals on metro Atlanta’s major corridors, dispatching pre-staged GDOT’s HERO response units, and conveying real-time traffic conditions to the traveling public throughout the rebuild of the Interstate.
