Port of Oakland sets volume record

[ July 13, 2017   //   ]

The Port of Oakland handled record import volume in June. That volume totaled the equivalent of 80,253 TEU, up 2% from the previous record of 78,326 TEU set in June 2006. Import volume in June was up 5.1% over year-ago levels and was a good sign for West Coast ports.

Export volume was up 2.4% in June, although no indication was given regarding the contents of those exports.

“As we near autumn, retailers begin stocking up for the holidays,” Port of Oakland maritime director John Driscoll said. “Healthy volumes now might be a preview of what we can expect for peak season.”
